Karl Urban has a question for Dougray Scott ([personal profile] dougray)

players only. backdated. takes place a few months after the boys settle on a place in LA.

They've been in the house for almost three months now and Karl loves it. Dougray's here pretty much all the time and Harry joins them as his schedule permits, more now that they've got an actual home base here and he has an actual office. Harry still doesn't like L.A. but he loves their place and with the huge back garden and pool and incredible views, it feels like the oasis they intended it to be. And Karl finds himself feeling more content than he ever has. Maybe it's age, maybe it's the place, maybe it's being more sure in his two lovers and where he fits in than he's ever been, but life is good and he's finding it much easier to relax and just enjoy than he ever thought he would.

He grins at Dougray as his lover comes to the table, bringing two fresh pizzas from the stone oven they had installed on the patio. "You look happy," he says, "and those smell fantastic." His stomach rumbling right on cue.

"I couldn't be anything but happy," Dougray tells him, and leans down to give his Sir a quick kiss. Pulling up a chair opposite, he points to first one pizza then the other. "This one is loaded but the crust is normal," he explains. "This other is a bit of an experiment. I mixed fresh herbs into the dough, but I was just guessing on the proportions. So please tell me what you think." He hands over a pizza cutter. "Do the honours?"

"Sure." Karl cuts both pizzas into six slices and pulls one of each onto his plate. He takes a bite of the one with the regular crusts and nods, groaning his appreciation. "Delicious."

It's the answer Dougray was expecting, but the praise thrills through him just the same. "Ah, and I see you dug out the good wine," he observes with a laugh. "Oh, shit! I forgot the salad!" He ducks inside the house for a long moment, and when he returns he lays a leaf of romaine on one of Karl's slices. "Now you're set."

Karl stares at the romaine for a second then starts laughing. "You mean there's not actually a salad?" he teases, pulling Dougray down for a kiss. "How will you survive?"

"I'll be all right," Dougray assures him with a grin. "I want to spoil you while I have the chance, before you have to start your next insane training regimen." He pours generous portions of wine into their goblets.

"Good idea." And certainly one Karl can get behind. He tries the 'experimental' pizza and nods. "This one's really good too. What kind of herbs did you put in it?"

"Stuff from the garden," Dougray says, and licks a hot drip of cheese from his finger. "Mostly basil and oregano, but I put a touch of rosemary in there, too. I'm not used to working with fresh herbs. I really like it."

Karl nods. "I can really taste the rosemary," he says, grinning as he easily devours a couple of slices before sitting back again. "This is even better than I thought it'd be," he tells Dougray, gesturing around them.

"Yeah, same," Dougray agrees. "And this place... it's just so different to England and Scotland. I don't think I'll ever quite get accustomed to the city," he says, waving his hand at the thick cluster of skyscrapers below. "But being up here, outside like this..." He smiles. "It's peaceful."

"Above it all," Karl says with another wide easy grin. He reaches for Dougray's hand, linking their fingers. "So you're happy? Really happy here?"

"Very, yes," Dougray answers, smiling back. God he loves it when the sunlight angles just right and teases out the green in Karl's eyes. "And it just feels... better," he says, at a loss for how exactly to express his feeling. "The two of you are still bouncing around and me back and forth with you, but it feels more secure now, somehow. Just knowing that the three of us have a real home together. Like the loft was, before your careers started taking you both in opposite directions."

Karl smiles and lifts their hands to his mouth, brushing his lips across Dougray's knuckles. "I want to ask you something and I want you to give it some serious thought even if your first reaction is hell, no. I already talked to Harry, this is something he wants too, but he told me to go ahead and do the asking."

Even despite the smile and the caress, Karl's words set off a few (fairly quiet) alarms. "Is it...? Are you...?" Dougray sits back and raises an eyebrow, trying to keep things light. "Oh, fuck. I know what this is. The two of you are really going to do it, aren't you? You're finally going to actually drive sharp pointed metal through my balls." And, lunatic that he is, he's pretty sure he'd let them.

Karl chuckles. "No, although it's tempting," he says, still holding onto Dougray's hand. "I want a commitment ceremony with you both."

Now that? That's perhaps an even bigger bombshell than any mention of permanent piercings. "Why?" Dougray asks, his eyes alight and his mind rioting.

"Because I can't ask you both to marry me, which I would if I could," Karl says simply, smiling, trying to gauge Dougray's response. They've sort of been down this road before but it's been a few years, Dougray's reaction the last time enough to deter them for a long while.

"I'd probably say no, anyway," Dougray murmurs apologetically. "One marriage was enough for me. But, a commitment ceremony for all three of us..." he trails off, trying to picture it. "That seems simply logical, doesn't it? I'm not going anywhere. I'm assuming the two of you have no plans to kick me out." He smiles a little and reaches for Karl's hand. "This is where we are. Yes."

"Seriously?" Karl grins and links their fingers, leaning across to kiss Dougray hard on the mouth. "Say it again."

Dougray laughs, pleasure tingling through him. He has never not been a complete sucker for Karl's grin. "Yes."

Karl beams and kisses Dougray again. "Will you wear a ring?" He doesn't know if that's infringing on the marriage thing too much.

Dougray considers, then nods. "If it's important to you."

"It is," Karl says, sitting back, their hands still linked, his meal forgotten for the moment. "I want us all to wearing matching ones."

"Matching? You and Harry will wear rings, too?" Dougray's lips curve in a smile. "I like that idea. It's not like," his hand goes to his throat and he lightly touches his at-home collar, the one he wears nearly round-the-clock now that he works from wherever they are. "But it shows that bond exists, where everyone can see it. They know someone's waiting at home for you."

Karl nods. "Exactly." He takes a sip of wine. "And I know it's not a wedding but maybe we could all manage an actual vacation somewhere after." What they do these days works for them but it's still rare to have all of three of them in one place for any length of time.

"An actual vacation? Maybe even at a Citadel facility?" God, what a wonder that would be. Dougray loves that his sirs are both out, with fuck-you attitudes telling the world to go judge someone else. But kissing them in public doesn't approach the things Dougray wants to be doing out in the open air. "I'll step up my training regimen," he says, referring to the preparations he's been working on for an upcoming marathons. "Maybe my sirs would like me to stay naked out in the sun."

"Your sirs would like that very much," Karl agrees. "And you can choose where we'd go if you like. Fiji, Maui, Goa... I think they just redid the one on Ko Samui."

Dougray smiles and steals another kiss. "You know your boy takes his responsibilities very seriously. I'll plan a holiday for us to remember."
